Top Freeware I Like
Introduction
Freeware is defined as any free software that is not ad-supported or software that 'phones home', i.e., not adware or spyware. Demo and shareware products are not included either.
There are several freeware sites around the world, and it will be a waste of your time to search through all of these sites looking for programs to help you. That is why I have this page set up. Everytime I come across a program that is useful and freeware, it gets added. This way, I keep my computer and this list stocked with the best freeware I can find. This list is basically the list of software that I use.
Also take a look at the antivirus page and the free PDF page for more free software.
As usual, any extra suggestions are welcome. You can contact me via the contact page.
The List
- IRC Client: BersIRC.
- Encryption: Blowfish Advanced CS.
- Text Editors: The best: Crimson Editor. ConTEXT and Metapad. Metapad is the best Notepad replacement.
- Web Browsers: The browsers out there at the moment are the Mozilla-based browsers. I think the best one is FireFox.
- ICQ Client: Miranda IM. Has plugins support, so you can use it for other networks, like MSN.
- Image Viewer: IrfanView. An image viewer that supports lots of formats and has some built in effects.
- FTP Clients: Smart FTP and FileZilla.
- Music Player: Winamp.
- Download Manager: DL Expert. Also Download Express. I use both at the same time as they complement each other sometimes. I installed DE first.
- Chemistry Software: ChemSketch.
- Drawing Program: Pixia.
- Trojan File Scanner: ANTS. [Note: Program is in German, but is easy enough to use without knowing German!]
- Theme Manager: Desktop Architect.
- Windows Tweaking: X-Setup. [Note: You can use this program to change the hidden settings of Windows and other programs.]
- Office Suite: OpenOffice or PC Suite 2001. OpenOffice is great!
- CD Ripper: CD Extractor (CDEX).
